Discover the Chilterns

Old Rose Cottage is located in the beautiful Hambleden Valley in the heart of the Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire.

Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) the Hambleden Valley has some of the most spectacular Chiltern scenery: high ridges, beechwoods, sweeping dry chalk valleys, and yet it is only 25 miles from Heathrow and 20miles from Oxford.

This unspoilt, picturesque location offers a wide range of attractions: from some of the finest walks in the Chilterns to boat trips and picnics along the nearby river Thames, visits to grand stately homes and shopping in the pretty market towns of Marlow, Henley-on-Thames, Thame and Wallingford.

Midsomer murders, anyone ?

With its tranquillity and its delightful cottages, most of which date back to the 16th century, Turville is one of the most popular film and TV locations of the country: beautiful St Mary’s is the church featured in The Vicar of Dibley, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was based at the Cobstone Windmill, which overlooks the village, and Midsomer Murders is a regular visitor here at the village, to name just a few.

Inside our Cottage

Old Rose Cottage is arranged over two floors. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin; the bedrooms and stairway have beautiful original oakbeams.

Downstairs there are a bathroom with bath/shower, a kitchen/dining
room and a sitting room. There is a magnificent inglenook fireplace in the sitting room with a log burner as well as a television.

The oak cottage-style kitchen has a dining area and is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, electric cooker and oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, full-size fridge/freezer and everything needed for an enjoyable holiday, including abundance of pans, cutlery and crockery.

Towels and bedding are provided at no extra charge and are changed weekly for bookings spanning over two weeks or longer.

Old Rose Cottage also benefits from a nearby private secluded garden (detatched from the property) with table and chairs, parking for one car and free wi-fi.

Things to do

The best ways to explore the surroundings are walking or cycling: the Ridgeway,The Thames Path and the Chiltern Way are waiting for you to do just that.

Hamlets are scattered around waiting to be discovered, with their old churches and hidden pubs: Swycombe, Ewelme, Fingest and Hambleden – with its magnificent lock – are just a few examples.

Along some of the most beautiful stretches of the River Thames you will find Henley-on-Thames, Marlow and Oxford, with their superb choice of cafes, boutiques and restaurants, and attractions for the whole family.

Or you can relax in front of the log burner and soak up the peaceful atmosphere of Turville.
